About Me And Myopia Solutions - How It All Started
Hi! Welcome to Myopia Solutions.com! My name is Guzel. I am 30 years old, grown up in Russia, married to a Dutchman and currently living in Sweden. The reason why I started this site is that I am myopic myself and have been searching for a myopia solution for 20 years. I began to develop myopia at the age of 9. My current prescription is -6.50 on my right eye and -6.25 on my left eye what makes me belong to the group of people with high myopic eyes. (-6.00 is considered to be a border between moderate and high myopia.) When I was a little girl my eye doctor told me that my eyes would stop developing nearsightedness when I reached the age of 18-20. Back then I spent a lot of time at my eye doctor's examination room endlessly doing eye exercises to stop myopia developing. And my eyes were undercorrected which would stimulate the eye muscles work. But when I reached that age there was no improvement: my eyes were still getting worse. In the meantime (at the age of 15) I had my first acquaintance with contact lenses. It was a great experience. At once I could see things in their real size so far I could look, every detail, every leaf on the tree. But very soon I found out that it was a tough job to wear contacts the whole day long. My eyes became itchy, dry and I got those typical terrible headaches which were gone with the removal of lenses. If you ask me: "What is happiness to you?", I would answer: "When I have my lenses in." So as you can see it's too early to say that I have already found my myopia solution. Of course if we compare lenses existed 15 years ago with nowadays solutions we will see a great difference. Contact lens industry today offers much more choice and it will take a while before one can say 'I've tried everything'. As for me, so far I have tried a lot of different types of contacts from hard lenses to soft ones made of different materials, from daily wear lenses to disposables. Still I have not found the lens I can wear the whole day. My choice at the moment - Air Optix from Ciba Vision or Acuvue Oasys made of silicone hydrogel material. These lenses I can wear for 4-5 hours at a time. If you have eyes too sensitive to wear contact lenses and dream of getting rid of your glasses, refractive surgery might be the best solution. But every surgery contains a certain risk and in case of eye surgery to correct myopia it's your own choice to undergo the operation. There is no doctor who says: 'You have to, you don't have a choice...' That's exactly where the problem is. In this case we have a choice, even too much choice between glasses, new lenses coming up every year and... operation. That's how I came to the idea to make this site. My goal is to help myself and other people with vision problems go through the points once again and pick up new information on contacts and refractive surgery as it appears, to be sure we make a good choice.
