Intralase LASIK Or iLASIK Procedure Step By Step

Intralase LASIK or iLASIK is a new procedure available along with Standard LASIK and Custom LASIK.

If the thought of a knife touching your eyeball isn't appealing, you might be more interested in iLASIK.

This surgery is totally bladeless which is not the only advantage: iLASIK is the most advanced form of LASIK you can choose from.

This procedure has been in development for more than ten years and is now perfected.

Here is what happens in bladeless LASIK:

  • The eye is anesthetized with drops.

  • Then a flap is made in the cornea with the laser and removed. This reveals the corneal tissue below.

The Intralase laser gives the surgeon complete control over all aspects of the incision like thickness, angle of cut and circumference, so he can accurately fit the flap to the eye itself more precisely.

There is also less chance of infection with this bladeless procedure and healing time is reduced in many cases.

  • Now the laser is applied to the cornea with the Wavefront technology and the cornea is effectively and accurately reshaped.

  • The flap is replaced and the healing process begins.

Because there is less tissue disturbance with the blade free technique, there are less complications.

LASIK surgery has come a long way in the last 20 years. Most patients achieve 20/20 day vision with basic LASIK, but have much better results with Custom or iLASIK.

Many iLASIK patients report vision better than 20/20 both day and night. Plus it is virtually painless. See your eye doctor for more information and guidance.

Before you commit to surgery, be sure to research all possible side effects that may occur.
