Your Degree Of Myopia
What's your degree of myopia? Let's find out.As you know, nearsightedness comes in various degrees, from minimal to extreme. The more nearsighted you are the blurrier your sight is at a distance. Targets should be nearer to you if you want to see them clearly. Eye doctors and scientists categorize myopia by degree or severity. This is quantified in diopters. A diopter is a measurement of the focusing ability of your lens. There are four levels: - Low myopia - a mild degree. This normally describes nearsightedness of up to 3.00 diopters.
- Medium - nearsightedness between 3.00 and 6.00 diopters.
If you have this, you are more likely to have pigment dispersion syndrome or pigmentary glaucoma.
- High myopia - which usually describes nearsightedness between 6.00 and 10.00 diopters.
If you fall in this category, your are more likely to have primary open angle glaucoma and retinal detachments. Research shows it is as well more likely to see shadow-like shapes which appear singly or in clusters in the visual field, if you are high myopic. - Extreme myopia – nearsightedness of 10 diopters and over.
