Cosmetic Contact Lenses - For A Nice Look And Vision Correction
Did you know that there are some significant differences between cosmetic contact lenses and standard contact lenses? Cosmetic lenses are designed for one major purpose.
They are intended to change the appearance of the eye; and in most cases this refers to the color of the iris.
There are some scleral contact lenses in existence that will cover the white of the eyes, but these are mainly restricted to theatrical use.
People who have light colored eyes that are blue or hazel can easily change their eye color to any shade they desire.
Those with dark brown eyes can change their eye color as well but sometimes the effect may not be as intense.
There is no medical reason for non-prescription cosmetic lenses to be used by anyone; it is simply a matter of choice.
Corrective Cosmetic Contacts
According to the FDA any contact lens without a corrective vision feature should be designated as a decorative contact lens.
There are some cosmetic contacts that are also designed to correct an individual's vision and they are termed "corrective cosmetic contact lenses".
They are designed to change the color of your eyes whether you are myopic or not.
When you order such lenses you need to choose the color you like and indicate your prescription (power, base curve and diameter). It is also the case with theatrical contacts.
Prescription Cosmetic Eyewear
In the US, the UK and Australia you can generally obtain contact lenses from an optometrist.
France and a few other European countries rely upon ophthalmologists to handle most contact lens dispensing.
Some countries will even allow an optician to provide patients with the contact lens that they request.
Although many cosmetic contacts are not prescription quality it is still a good idea to let highly trained professionals assist you with your vision needs.
If you have any type of vision problems you will need to have a prescription for the cosmetic contact lenses that you want. This is the safest and best choice for you to make.
Remember that a little prevention and planning can save you from more serious eye problems in the future.
