Contact Lens Cleaner - Leave The Dirty Job To A Machine

When thinking of a contact lens cleaner, the first thing that comes to your mind are contact lens solutions. But did you know that there are also contact lens cleaning machines?

Everyone knows it's important to regularly clean your lenses. Dirt and debrie can cause blurry vision and even infections to the eye.

At the same time, you run the risk of damaging your lens via cosmetics, soap, environmental pollutants and lots of other things.

There are people whose eyes are so sensitive to dirt and debris that they can't even wear lenses on a daily basis.

Manual cleaning is effective if done properly and if you use the right solutions. But it doesn't always work for everyone. That's where these lens cleaning machines come in.

The most common cleaning machines are:

Contact lens cleaner Shining Image Ultrasonic Cleaner

Bogue Systems UltraSonic

These devices work slightly different but where it comes down to is that you place your lens in a holder which needs to be filled with contact lens solution. Then, switch on the machine and just wait. Manufacturers claim it takes only two minutes to get a perfectly clean lens.

Depending on the product and store, contact lens cleaning machines cost between $20 and $50.

Pros

  • smaller chance of contact lens damage
  • according to research, a machine cleans better
  • quick and easy: it takes only 2 minutes from dirty to clean (note: sterilizing takes longer)

Cons

  • one more tool to take with you when you travel....
  • you still need contact lens solution
  • not all users report good results (some still need to clean manually after use)

I have not tried contacts cleaners myself so I can't give you any personal experience, but it seems safe to give it a try if you feel that your own cleaning leaves a lot to be desired. There is no sign these machines will damage your lenses and you can find a good number of satisfied users on the Internet.
