Colored Contact Lenses

Colored contact lenses have become more popular than ever before. They’re not just for Hollywood and Broadway any longer.

Part of their increased popularity has to do with the fact that nowadays they are safer and more comfortable than ever, and they now can be found in many, many more styles and designs than ever before as well.

There are also corrective colored lenses that can be worn by people with vision problems.

They can be used to correct astigmatism and myopia as well as used for aesthetic purposes, so if you need corrective contact lenses you can still take part in the fun and creativity and get yourself corrective lenses.

An Eye Exam Is A Must

The first thing you want to do regardless of whether you want the colored contact lenses for corrective purposes or just aesthetics alone is to consult an eye doctor.

Get a thorough eye exam, for you might actually need corrective lenses but not know it, plus you want to know if you have extra-sensitive eyes that might get irritated by the lenses.

Do Your Research

Then, when it comes time to actually select the lenses, ask around to anybody you know who has worn them before and get their advice.

Finally, try to buy a brand that you are familiar with. If you’ve never worn colored contacts before, do your research and at least at first take the advice of those who refer you to the brands that they have been pleased with.

You can find colored contact lenses in places that sell corrective eyeglasses and, needless to say, on the Internet. Here you'll find colored contacts to each taste:

Some manufacturers and distributors now even have programs at their websites where you can upload a picture of yourself and then “try on” any of the different lenses they sell to see which ones you like the best.

No matter which reason you are getting your colored contact lenses for, you’ll need a prescription written out for them.

This is because under U.S. law all contact lenses, even just those that you might wear as part of your Halloween costume, are medical devices and your eye doctor must write out a prescription.

Of course, if you only need the lenses purely for aesthetic reasons he’ll be happy to just write it out for you, but you do have go through that process.

Choose Your Style

Circle colored lenses have become very popular in some Far Eastern countries such as Japan. These are contact lenses with coloration extending all the way to the edge of the contact, which gives your iris the appearance of being larger than it actually is.

You can also buy scleral contact lenses that cover your entire eye for a very dramatic effect, but some people have trouble keeping them in straight so be wary of them. Scleral contact lenses probably should not be used for vision correction.

Whether you want to look like an extraterrestrial, a cat, someone with huge irises, or any one of hundreds of other things, corrective and non-corrective colored contacts are out there for you. Just don’t forget that you need that prescription.
